Dialogues with Sophie

I want you to meet my friend, Sophistia, or "Sophie" for short. Her real name is Claudette Konola, and, in my opinion, she has made herself pretty much a public person1, in other words a "politician2", which means she is legally fair game for parody treatment. (See, e.g., Hustler Magazine, Inc. v. Falwell, 485 U.S. 46 (1988).) She is also one of the Mesa County Patriots' (MCP) most popular prog/lib trolls, and appears fairly regularly to contribute her sophistry to the MCP posts.

Lately, she has been trolling my MCP posts and contributing her sophistic remarks even though I have asked her at least two or three times not to do that because, I didn't think we had anything to offer each other. She basically ignored my requests, so I decided to have some fun and start talking with her about pretty much whatever she wants to talk about. Who knows, we might actually become honest-to-goodness friends (although I admittedly won't be holding my breath)!

(NOTE: Interested people can see what our conversations are like by clicking HERE, HERE, and/or HERE. The "Fakebook" URL where this particular conversation took place is HERE.)

As a lover of history, and the kind of stodgy nerd whose favorite hobby is reading U.S. Supreme Court opinions, I tend to think too much like a lawyer and try to be intellectually open, use direct speech, adequately (to suit Voltaire) specific definitions and not talk in canned partisan "talking points". As far as I can tell, Sophie is the exact polar opposite type: little regard for facts, logic, or intellectual honesty, with focus mainly on political-agenda-driven talking points and rhetorical "mix-apples-and-oranges-or-whatever-else-it-takes" circumlocution.

I told you that to tell you this: I believe/worry it will take a real-life shooting Civil War ver 2.0 to restore the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights to their rightful place as the Supreme Law of the Land in America. A fair implication of that statement is that, eventually, one day, Sophie and I may be looking down the barrel of our muskets at each other from our opposite sides of the proverbial Concord Bridge. Oh, wait! That previous sentence might be construed by lying prog/lib propagandists as threatening violence, instead of being an abstract metaphorical expression of political philosophy, hyperbole or Karma. So I had better rephrase it. (Lawyer like to "rephrase" questions to eliminate objections.) Here's the same point in different words: "A fair implication of that statement is that, eventually, one day, people very much like Sophie and me may be looking down the barrels of their muskets at each other from their opposite sides of the proverbial Concord Bridge." That wording of the point might not be as interesting grammatically, but it is less capable of sophistic manipulation, and the identical philosophical/metaphorical point is made. I can see nothing about how prog/libs and assorted entitlement-minded leftist fascists operate in the public arena that would tend to support the notion that my opinion is erroneous.

I thought that if, somehow, Sophie and I could find a way to talk to each other without her insistent use of rhetorical manipulativeness and sophistry, maybe there is some chance for the American peasantry/proletariat/hoi polloi to avoid Civil War ver 2.0.

Also, since Sophie seems concerned about the MCP page's relatively low popularity ratings, I thought maybe a series of articles titled "Dialogues With Sophie" and linked to Fakebook might prove to be so fascinating -- (kind of like yelling "food fight!" in a junior high school cafeteria) -- that the MCP Fakebook page could improve its popularity ratings.

Because of her background in the banking industry, one of the things I will try to get Sophie to talk about is the provably unconstitutional debt-as-legal-tender fraud which has killed the U.S. Constitution, which is killing the human race, and which I have described in detail in my historical essay titled "The Big Lie". It appears to be a subject she doesn't like to talk about, which is why I posted links to a few tangentially relevant videos below.

Anyway, boys and girls, stay tuned! As Matt Drudge likes to say: "Developing . . ."

Oh, Sophie, darlin', can you come out and play?!

KONOLA: Leaving Colorful Colorado & Welcome to Gun-landia - by Claudette Konola VOICE OF THE PROGRESSIVE
Free Press Opinion Columnist - July 15, 2013 - Post Independent / Citizen Telegram.
"Weld County gun nuts were the first to announce their intention, but Mesa County isn't far behind. The handful of men calling themselves Mesa County Patriots have been discussing starting a petition to get the question of independent statehood on the next ballot."
"Shame on the Mesa County Patriots for trying to destroy Colorado as a state. I find nothing patriotic in your actions. Instead, I find a bunch of cartoon characters play-acting at government with no real understanding of what it actually means to govern. It takes laws, not guns. Fortunately, most voters understand this."
"Claudette Konola is happy with Colorado government just the way it is. She can be reached at ckonola@optimum.net."
(See Jeff McCloskey's July 28, 2013 rebuttal to Sophie HERE.)
Sophism alert > > > Sophie said: "I find a bunch of cartoon characters play-acting at government with no real understanding of what it actually means to govern. It takes laws, not guns (emphasis added).
Response to sophism: "It takes laws, not guns [to govern]"? Yeh, right. That's why Mao Zedong said "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." And that's why all of the countries of the world have military branches, all with guns, and some with nukes. Give me a break, Sophie!

OPINION: Local Patriots seem to flout governance - by Claudette Konola VOICE OF THE PROGRESSIVE
Free Press Opinion Columnist - August 7, 2013 - Post Independent / Citizen Telegram.
"It seems to me that the Mesa County Patriots' claim to support our Constitution is negated by their actions flaunting regulations and laws enacted by our legally-elected representative government. I do not believe that they believe in either the Constitution or the concept of government."
Sophism alert > > > Sophie said: "regulations and laws enacted by our legally-elected representative government."
Response to sophism: Notice how Sophie conveniently omitted the words PROVABLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL "regulations and laws". And notice how she glibly used the term "legally-elected" when Malik Obama (see at about 33:45 to 46.00 of the video), Barack's older half brother, says that Barack was born in Mombasa, Kenya of a Kenyan-citizen father who at no time ever became a U.S. citizen, a fact which makes Barack constitutionally ineligible to hold the office of President of the United States per Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution, as interpreted by Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. (21 Wallace) 162 (1874). See also Barack Obama's Trump-supporting half-brother Malik tweets Kenya birth certificate. Interestingly, even the so-called "conservative World Net Daily appeared to be in on this Deep State cover up. Check out the talk string on the WND article: "The original hospital in Hawaii at the time of his birth was built by the Territorial governor with help of Queen Kapi?olani in 1890 before the royal family of Hawaii was deposed. It was called Kapi?olani Maternity Home until 1909 when its name changed to Kauikeolani Children’s Hospital which changed its name in 1946 to Kauikeolani Maternity and Children’s Hospital. In 1978, it was torn down and merged with Kapi'olani Hospital where a new name was made for the merger Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children. Kapi'olani Hospital was built in 1974 at its current location which is something I am betting [Obama] never realized."
"Legally elected"? Yeh, right, Sophie.

The best lawyers are very good at deconstructing sophistry, lies and spin. Two of my all-time favorite lawyers are Arthur L. Liman (left) and Gerry Spence (right). You may remember that Liman was the U.S. Senate's chief counsel during the Iran-Contra Affair. Gerry Spence is one of the most charismatic individuals you will ever see. He has written numerous courageous books, most of which I own and have read, my favorite being "With Justice for None: Destroying an American Myth".

Anyway, the way lawyers deconstruct impossibly-tangled Gordian Knots of sophistry, lies, manipulation and spin is to break it down word by word, phrase by phrase, sentence by sentence and premise by premise, and then respond with documented proof to each false word, phrase, sentence and/or premise.

On paper, it might look something like this:
POINT 1. At P 3, ¶ 2, L 7 of Brother Bullwinkle's tangled pile of ad hominem manipulation, he said: "Yadayadayada."
RESPONSE TO POINT 1. For the actual truth of the matter, see the decision of Dipstick v. Dungbag, 110 Metaphor Digest 421. Or, better yet, reference an exhibit of some sort (whether written, audio or video) where Brother Bullwinkle said the exact opposite thing of what he is saying now.
Ad infinitum.

For a real-life example, when Sister Sophie manipulatively calls normal, decent, law abiding people "gun nuts", you might suggest that either 1) she is choosing to deliberately lie as a wannabe-clever propaganda strategy -- (I hate when that happens) -- or 2) she is woefully ignorant and has never read the U.S. Supreme Court cases of District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010).

Computer technology and the Internet make it easy to use hyperlinks as a sort of really cool footnote where the reader can instantly reference to the data or other material being used to prove your point against Sophie. For example, in the "gun nut" manipulation, you could reference articles such as "Why does anyone need a high-capacity magazine?" at American Thinker, "The Threat Posed by Gun Magazine Limits" at Reason.com, or "Five Reasons Why You Should Want High Capacity Magazines" at Jews For The Preservation Of Firearms Ownership.

These are some of the tools and methods which make sophistry more difficult for sophists to get away with.

Colorado Constitution, Article II, Bill of Rights:
"Section 10. Freedom of speech and press. No law shall be passed impairing the freedom of speech; every person shall be free to speak, write or publish whatever he will on any subject, being responsible for all abuse of that liberty; and in all suits and prosecutions for libel the truth thereof may be given in evidence, and the jury, under the direction of the court, shall determine the law and the fact."

Jeffrey Dickstein Interview 16th Amendment and Taxes Part One

JEFF DICKSTEIN (lawyer): (at about 5:25 into vid) “All a lawyer means is that you paid a lot of money to a university to be brainwashed that the judges decide what the law is. When I was in law school, we never read the Constitution. We read decisions of judges telling us what the Constitution meant.” (at about 6:00 into vid) "Well, there is no [U.S.] Constitution anymore. It's just an idle word. It doesn't exist. It's been flushed down the toilet. It doesn't exist. There's no 1st Amendment. There's no 2nd Amendment. There's no 4th Amendment. There's no 5th Amendment. There's no 6th Amendment. It just doesn't exist."

1. Legislative Races To Watch In 2014: Part 1 (State Senate). Sophie has run for public office more than once -- against at least Steve King and Ray Scott -- so, yes, she definitely fits the legal criteria for being a "public person.
"Senate District 7"
"More colorful than competitive is the race to replace Sen. Steve King (R-Grand Junction) who is running for Mesa County Sheriff. Republican Rep. Ray Scott of Grand Junction is gunning for the seat, but will have to fend off challenger Democrat Claudette Konola, who was defeated by King in 2010."
"Konola is an environmentalist and Colorado Pols blogger whose missives about the Mesa County Republicans and Western Slope tea party members have raised eyebrows."
"In a district where Republican voters outnumber Democrats more than 2 to 1, conservative Scott seems destined to win the November election – but Konola plans to court young unaffiliated voters."
“'If they are over 50 they are probably to the right of Attila the Hun and they’ve gotten disillusioned with the Republican Party,' she told the Grand Junction Sentinel in October. 'But if they are under 30, maybe even under 40, they are young people who just don’t like labels.'”
"Konola has written that 'TABOR is destroying Colorado,' the state must 'raise taxes' to remain viable, 'climate change is real,' and gun-control laws passed by Democrats are reasonable. Colorado’s gun-control laws are opposed by 'hot-headed gun nuts who think that a requirement to reload after 15 shots somehow takes away their right to possess a firearm,' said Konola."
"Now, the Democrat touts her support for Second Amendment rights, concealed carry permits and the county 'sheriffs’ lawsuit against the gun bills. While there may be some people in this community who think I am anti-gun, they are absolutely wrong,' said Konola."

2. Always remember, "politics" = person or group A trying to persuade person or group B to obey the will of A, most frequently for the personal financial benefit of A and to the personal financial detriment (higher taxes) of B. In other words, "politics" = manipulation. That is why deception = the so-called "art" of politics. That is also why "politician" = professional deceiver, and why "political" = deception-based, or having to do with deception. Everybody is competing for political power to steal labor and money out of the "other guy's" pocket and put it in their own. Politicians get votes by promising to be all things to all people. Because that is a physical impossibility, most of their promises of necessity get broken. Because they know this in advance, they are ALL liars to one degree or another. The king is always the most corrupt person in the kingdom. (The first two kings of ancient Israel, Saul and David, were murderers.) In my opinion, any person who sincerely wants to be the king is criminally insane and an implacable deadly enemy to the inalienable Creator-endowed rights of individual freedom and self-ownership.

3. In reality, there is no such real thing as "government". It is not a rock, a tree, a river, or even a cloud. It is mere behavior, an established social order, a dominance-based pecking order. With other animal species, it is often called "dominance hierarchy". In the case of humans, the term "social hierarchy" is more often used. As Frédéric Bastiat said, "Government is the great fiction through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." As H.L. Mencken said, "Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods." As General Smedley Butler has written, "War Is A Racket". In reality, "government" is merely the dominant individuals in the inherently evil and inevitably corrupting stupid-human pecking order struggle known as "politics"2. These disordered-by-definition dominant individuals merely call themselves "government" so the hoi polloi masses will view them as being intelligent enough and moral enough to follow and obey.

Under construction . . .
